How is take-home pay calculated in 2026/27?
With a standard £12,570 Personal Allowance, England, Wales and Northern Ireland apply 20%, 40% and 45% Income Tax bands. The allowance reduces by £1 per £2 of adjusted net income above £100,000. Standard category A employee NI is 8% between monthly thresholds of £1,048 and £4,189, then 2%. Employer NI is informational, not deducted from your net pay.
Why might the result differ from my payslip?
This is a full-year, single-income estimate. Employee NI assumes twelve equal monthly payments with monthly rounding; a separate full-year director annual basis is available. Weekly/hourly input changes annualisation, not payroll frequency. Scottish income bands, emergency/cumulative PAYE, benefits in kind, irregular pay and multiple jobs are excluded. Supported numeric L codes and 0T are allowance approximations, not a full PAYE code interpreter.
How are pensions and student loans treated?
The default pension method is an after-tax cash deduction with no relief modelled. Eligible employed salary sacrifice reduces tax, NI and loan earnings; net pay reduces tax but not NI or loan earnings. Relief at source treats the entry as net paid, credits a gross contribution and assumes eligible additional relief is claimed. Percentages apply to full gross pay, not qualifying earnings. Annual-allowance charges, minimum-wage eligibility and low-earner relief are not calculated. Only one loan plan is supported; simultaneous undergraduate/postgraduate deductions are excluded.
